The Medit i900 is the latest addition to Medit i-Series intraoral scanners, building upon the success of the i500, i600, and i700 models. In this review, we explore the improvements and features by comparing the i900 with earlier models. Dr. Donghwan Kim, a long-time user of Medit scanners, provides detailed insights into these changes.
Weight and Balance Improvements
Weight Comparison:
One of the key improvements in the i900 is its weight. The Medit i900 is 100 grams lighter than the i700 when connected with a cable, making it easier to handle during prolonged use.
Weight Center:
The i500 has a front-heavy design, requiring a grip near the tip. The i700’s center of gravity is towards the back, especially in the wireless model with the battery positioned at the rear. The i900, however, features a thinner grip and a balanced center of gravity, enhancing user comfort significantly.
Size and Cable Handling
Scanner Size:
The i900 is smaller than its predecessors, making it easier to handle with one hand. Its compact size improves grip and maneuverability.
Cable Flexibility:
The i900 features a thinner and softer cable, measuring 3.5 millimeters in diameter compared to the i700’s 5.6 millimeters. This makes the i900’s cable 61% more flexible, reducing interference during scanning.
Touch Band:
A notable feature of the i900 is its 360-degree Touch Band, allowing for easy operation from any grip direction. This design eliminates the need to adjust the grip to start or stop the scan, enhancing user convenience.
Scanning Speed and Performance
Field of View:
The i900 boasts a larger field of view, approximately 38% bigger than the i700, which theoretically reduces scanning time. After trying the new i900 in his clinic, Dr. Kim found the i900’s scanning speed to be 31% faster once the user adapted to the new model. The i900’s improved field of view allows for easier alignment and enhanced tooth recognition during mandibular movements. You can watch the full webinar video above to see a live demo of these improvements in action.
Metal Scanning and Gingival Bleeding
The i900 excels in scanning metal parts and areas with gingival bleeding. Its 10-bit camera specifications reduce scan data noise, producing more detailed and colorful results. This enhancement makes the i900 particularly effective in capturing margins in bleeding areas, a significant improvement over previous models.
